Route Sun 10 May – Wellington to Otaki
May 10, 2009 on 6:00 pm | In Daily routes | 1 CommentToday I rode out of Wellington with @rowansimpson and @lancewiggs in rain and hail (which we dodged in a bush shelter), and a little bit of sun towards the end. We decided to pick one of the meanest hills out of Wellington through the Akatarawa Valley climbing 450 meters. The view from the top was fantastic!
Thanks to Rowan and his all his bike technology we also tracked our elevation and speed.
Route Wed 6 May – Ward to the top of the South Island (Picton)

Route Tue 5 May – Kaikoura to Ward

I had the option to stop in Kekerengu but decided to push on over some hills to Ward in order to make it to Wellington for Thursday.
Route Mon 4 May – Cheviot to Kaikoura

A few hills on route today. The first I breezed over, the next few were a bit more of a challenge but I put my mind to it and grinded up and over. For a bonus when going down the final steep decent into the flat-ish coast road to Kaikoura, I actually overtook a car!

Route Sat 2 May – Christchurch to Waipara
May 2, 2009 on 4:34 am | In Daily routes | No CommentsAfter a rest day in Christchurch I rolled on up the coast to Waipara. I always feel slow to get going after a rest day. I called past Rangiora to visit my cousin(in-law) for lunch before enjoying the great company of @benkepes and the boys for a night in his fantastic house. We stayed up far too late talking.
Route Thu 30 April – Ashburton to Christchurch
April 30, 2009 on 12:55 am | In Daily routes | 1 CommentToday I didn’t nearly get as wet. I did 86km but the tailwind made it feel like 60 so I was thankfull for that. It was bloody cold, but probably not the coldest day I will experience in the next 5 weeks.
I am in Christchurch for the next couple of days being a tourist and catching up with some great people. This is a milestone for me, basically 1/4 of the trip is under my belt. Woohooo!
